When looking for you an attorney to help you with a divorce or family law case, you’ll notice that some attorneys offer a free initial consultation, while others do not. While it may be tempting to choose an attorney based on whether or not they offer a free consultation, you may want to question why a law firm would provide their knowledgeable legal advice for free.
At Ilvento Law, P.A., we charge a fee for initial consultations, which are scheduled for 60-90 minutes because from the second you reach out to our law firm, we begin dedicating our resources, years of experience, and expertise to providing the best advice for your situation. A free consultation is not valuable if the advice you receive only covers a portion of the questions or concerns you may have, or, even worse, leads you down the wrong path.
There are certain products or services worth paying for because the cost is worth the quality you receive. And while there is a time and place to take advantage of a more affordable option, an initial consultation should not be the place to cut corners, as the results of your divorce or family law case will have a long-lasting impact on you and your loved ones.
At first thought, it may seem like an initial consultation should be offered complimentary. After all, you’re just starting your journey and may not even know what direction to take. On the contrary though, the initial consultation is one of the most important steps in the divorce or family law process. It’s uninterrupted one-on-one time with the attorney, where you can provide as much information about your situation as possible, ask as many questions as you’d like, and based on what your goals and desired outcome are for your case, end the consultation with a clearly laid out strategy for what you can expect should you decide to hire the firm.
During the consultation, you’ll also hear a lot from the attorney. This is where she’ll provide you with her opinions, advice and suggestions, backed by years of experience practicing family law, as well as a strategy for how she thinks you’ll have the best chance of achieving your desired outcome. This is an also an opportunity for you to get to know the attorney and determine if she’s someone you feel comfortable and confidant working with.
At the end of the consultation, you’ll walk away with all of your concerns and worries addressed, questions answered and with a solid plan in place moving forward, giving you the peace of mind you deserve.
This is not what happens during a free consultation. Although it’s tempting to take advantage of that offer, and while you may get some of your questions answers, the attorney you’re meeting with isn’t being paid to give you their full attention and professional opinion on the best course of action for you, and most likely, you’ll only have a short window of time to speak with them face to face—usually about 15 or 30 minutes.
At Ilvento Law, P.A., you get what you pay for and can expect to receive nothing short of exceptional legal guidance and representation from a board certified family law attorney. In family law matters, especially those involving complicated issues such as divorce, asset division, international family law or child custody, having the right legal representation on your side can mean the difference between success and total failure. Be sure to adequately prepare yourself and invest in the peace of mind you deserve during this important process.
